Xu first heard about Loughborough while researching postgraduate programmes in the UK. Attracted by the University’s reputation and resources, she decided to pursue her master’s degree at Loughborough, quickly becoming an active part of the University community.
During her time at Loughborough, Xu focused on building her employability through academic study and engagement in extracurricular activities. She completed a module on Personal Development for Employability, attended Careers Fairs, joined workshops on CVs, LinkedIn, and leadership, took part in mock assessments, and received tailored advice from Career Coaches. She also volunteered as a facilitator for Hashtag Me, supporting peers with mental health and resilience, and regularly joined free sports sessions, including Zumba and basketball, which helped her stay active and connect with fellow students.
She credits Loughborough’s teaching quality and industry engagement for enhancing her academic journey. She worked on live projects for global brands including Pepsi Max, Patagonia, Brompton Bicycles, and Nespresso. These experiences equipped Xu with a versatile skill set, strengthening her abilities in communication, analytical thinking, research, collaboration, and leadership.
Xu shared one particularly memorable highlight - when her lecturer invited the former C-suite from Britvic to her class as a guest speaker. He later returned as a judge for their group project, offering valuable insights and feedback.
Among other experiences, she recalls one moment with pride:
My team and I produced our first-ever commercial ad for the Pepsi Max project. From researching, brainstorming new flavors and plot creations, to finalising locationss, filming, and editing, all of us spend loads of time, which led to the final ad that we are all happy about.”
